MTP conversion patch cords are designed to provide greater flexibility for MTP-based cabling systems. Unlike MTP fanout cables, MTP conversion patch cords feature MTP connectors at both ends and can offer more possibilities for existing 16-fiber cabling systems.
In MTP-16 APC to 2xMTP-8 UPC conversion patch cords, the MTP-8 connectors use only 8 active fibers from the MTP-12 for transmission, leaving the remaining 4 fibers unused. They are designed to connect two NVIDIA InfiniBand 200G QSFP56 or QSFP56 optical modules to NVIDIA 400G QSFP-DD or QSFP-DD/OSFP optical modules. Compared to purchasing and installing an adapter separately, using MTP conversion patch cords is a more economical and lower-loss option.
